Notes on - Evil: October 31

October 31 notes

I’m kind of over fake ghosthuner shows Gotham Ghosts

Runway Dolls

Caliente Day. Love that

Ben: Yep. I’m skeptical.

Have we seen the Hopkins house before?

Laura’s heart valve hasn’t developed more

Doctor: We’ll wait a couple of weeks and pray for good news

Kristen: Pray?

Doctor: Figure of speech. Hope for good news

Does Laura understand how serious her heart problem is

Ah, the Hopkins house was a case before the pilot episode

Where are the other girls?

Sheryl trying to scare away her date’s hiccups is exactly what I would have done

Leland is creepy right off the bat with Sheryl. Interesting that she’s drawn to that

Leland: Kindness is hypocrisy

Is it weird to hold an exorcism on Halloween

I get why bad girl Sheryl would be drawn to this

Leland kissing is icky. Bold choice of the show to set up Sheryl and Leland romantically

Sheryl: Grandma’s here and she’s ready for her close up. You guys look amazing.

Lexis: And she’s drunk.

‘Brenda’ – There’s always that one kid at a sleepover

OK, it’s officially weird to be having an exorcism this late on Halloween

***‘Sorry, no candy. Happy Halloween!’

Rate with funky flies with stripes

Why the sunglasses. Oh, to keep her from making eye contact. Thank you David

Sheryl: Please don’t scare yourselves to death, that would be hard to explain to your mom.

Nothing creepy about little girl in mask

Is this the true story of not-Brenda and why she’s a vengeful spirit?

Oh yeah, the haunted strip club

Vanessa and Ben are definitely sparking

And Ben’s relating the story of 177 minutes and the inexplicable ghost video

Oh Ben, your concern about not being able to tell real vs fake is only going to get worse

Three different plotlines this week

Why do possessions always involve vomit

Sheryl is cyber stalking Leland

Ah, the creepy basement

Brenda is not nice

Good on Lexis for not giving in to peer pressure

Ah, recreating the Exorcists iconic shot. Can we stop doing that now.

Doctor Kurt

I love how unimpressed Ben is with everything the Gotham Ghosts people are doing

Is that ghost a fake by the team or not? Are they really not filming

Everybody’s started bleeding. That’s creepy

Good on ben for shoving the camera guy out of the way

How did she know about the three stars

Kristen and Jurt’s dialogue is very much lawyer and witness couched. The King’s just can’t help themselves

Clever Kristen, dumping the holy water and replacing with tap water

They rarely get as explicit as Father Amara and Kurt – voices of authority – directly stating their opposing views and neither able to be in charge

It’s the usual Religious explanation vs. Science explanation

Gotta love Ben being Ben and immediately diving in to find the scientific explanation

And the bloody noses are from the chemical spray used for the illusion

Leland claims to wear Jedi Knight boxers and he and Sheryl are basically having phone sex

At this stage Sheryl is still capable of resisting Leland’s temptation

Woman on phone: Hello, Kristen?

Sheryl: No, who’s this?

Woman on phone: Michelle Phillips

Sheryl: (Sharp intake of breathe) From the Mommas and the Papas?

Woman on phone: Excuse me?

Sheryl: Never mind.

And Lexis refused to go to the graveyard too. Good for her. Although it’s really just that the plot required her to be home to tell Sheryl where they went

Another seeded reference to the 60

Good on Sheryl for calling Kristen right away, and of course Kristen would drop everything and go

Would a responsible graveyard leave an open grave at night like that?

Laura should not be putting this pressure on her heart like that

This all feels very much like it’s supposed to be a real possession

‘He’s coming… for you.’ Ominous

Caroline

So does Kurt believe now?

3 stars above David in the sky. They’re really leaning into the ‘what are the 3 stars’ mystery

Vanessa and Ben are moving from tweeting to texting

Really nicely done the way we never see what was under the mask but the girls do

Notes on - Doctor Who: Joy to the World

Doctor Who – Joy to the World notes. The Queen’s Hotel – Manchester 1940 I quite like Basil and Mrs. Basil Why are we in WWII again? Basil: It’s the end of everything, you know. Everything we hold dear.   Democracy itself will fall. I hate Pumpkin Latte Aren’t those locked doors pretty much always just connecting rooms? Orient Express – Italy – 1962 Do a lot of people read Murder on the Orient Express on the Orient   Express?   Bit on the nose. OK, we’re opening with a montage of the Doctor bursting in on various time periods and places to offer them the same lukewarm toastie and pumpkin Latte.   That’s a pretty clever way to establish the concept of the hotel from the back door, as it were MOTOE is a much thicker book than that.   And she has handwritten pages Base camp – Everest 1953.   Is there only one base camp? Sandringham Hotel – London 2024.   So, time of airing then. I’m not loving Joy’s outfit Apparently the...

Notes on - American Gods: Tears of the Wrath-Bearing Tree

Tears of the wrath bearing tree notes Eggs with two yolks always freak me out What’s with the boxer walking in and out? Bilquis needs to find ‘the other’ and convince him he isn’t alone? They’re really lening into the fluid in slow motion shots. OK, the wax forming the US was cool.   And a nice visual to introduce the concept of the exact center of the US So who is Shadow’s other?   Laura?   TB?   Wednesday?   We saw all three of them Shadow jiust claimed the ravens as his own. That was a pretty tenuous description for him to recognize Laura from, but then he did know she was headed to kill Wednesday ****   One shock at a time. He’s still Crispin Glover.   I thought he was only supposed to be in one episode this season.   I wonder what the real reason for the casting changes was How did he convince Laura to go the the Gods place? World very carefully told Laura that Shadow was there and then played every reverse psyc...

Notes on - Doctor Who: The Well

The Well Notes The Doctor and Belinda are trying to get back to 5/24/25 after just one vindicator reading.   That seems optimistic, but it is a good way to remind audience of the basic setup of ‘stop and take readings. Belinda is very methodical and logical. Good skill set for a nurse. Belinda: Have we been invaded? Or hit by a meteor? Or swatted by a giant moth? The Doctor: Oh.   Imagine a moth that big! I love how healthy Belinda’s relationship with her parents is *** I will meet your mum and dad. And I will make your dad laugh. And your mum can whistle at my behind. And I will sing.   I will do the singing. That is a promise. So a second triangulation reading from the vindicator 500,000 years in the future She’s asking good questions and it’s allowing the Doctor to   give his standard ‘humans are awesome’ shtick, but is also very cleverly letting them slip in the required ‘The TARDIS translates’ explanation. OK, I am officially in love w...
