Meat the legends notes

 

The windshield wiper gag opening was a cute way to quickly restate the premise of the season, but I’m not sure it wasn’t a little stupid.

Is Ava forgetting that she’s sort of engaged, or is she deliberately not thinking about it because Sara’s missing

How would finding an alien lead back to Sara?  Is she counting on them being microchipped or something?

Same set-up with Gideon finding the ‘history spot of the week.

‘We already have a bite, so to speak.’

It’s a little endearing that Behrad is such a small restaurant enthusiast.  They’ve fixed his characterization issues from last week.

Gideon’s having a sassy day – the splash of blood on the screen to show the massacre was super extra.  And she made a joke!

Ava:  Mm.  No, I would have gone with ‘Suburban Slaughter’

Nate:  Save it for the podcast.

Ava:  This is good news.

Spooner: Y’all are dark,

Oh yeah,  weird detail that they found out there was nothing in Spooners brain last ep and neither told her right away nor made a big deal about  telling her later.

Meanwhile, Gary and Sara crash on a purple-ish alien planet.

Gary and Kaila were hired by some space lord to gather the universe’s most dangerous creatures.  OK, that make sense of why he picker Sara over Ava.  And they ;anded on the planet of the dude that wanted the dangerous creatures

I would totally buy a deck of ‘Strong American Women playing cards.’  Even though they’re a blatant plot function setup for Gary to recognize Amelia Earhart

Sara speaks for all of us when she says of all the people to be stuck with

Sara:  Three moons.  Three moons.  Yeah, I can get behind that.  But a dog, that’s weird.

Seriously though – wtf with the dog

Dragon ash – herbal neotropic supplements.  Would that really tranqualize zombies

Kind of gratuitous seeding of dragon ash, the strong woman cards and Zari wanting to use the totem.  The sauce itself is more subtly seeded dripping onto the officers uniform

John:  (In a cheesy southern accent)  Any gruesome eviscerations?

This would have been a great slow reveal if the ads hadn’t totally ruined it.

Mick stealing the cop car would have been charming if Dominic hadn’t ruined it

The ‘hungry alien with a taste for meat’ explanatiuon would have totally sold but we got pre-spoiled.

Wait, would that waitress be authorized to hire?

Love that Nate got to be the roller skating eye candy server.  His shorts needed to be shorter though.

Yeah, it’s weird that the waitress seems to have that much authority in 1955.  More so the longer you think about it.

Behrad:  Let’s go meet the meat!

Zari:  How did I get here.

I really don’t care about Gary’s back story, although the Lorne-ness of it does kind of explain how artificial he’s always felt.

That dog is clearly leading them.

Why is the grocery store sitting unlocked and empty after someone got killed there?

 

Spooner sensing the presence of aliens is SO well handled in service to misdirecting the viewer about what’s really happening.  Why did they ruin it??

Cute twist that the guy in the alien mascot suit was the first suspect.  An alien disguised as a human disguised as an alien would have been believable as the explanation

Spooner:  You sure?   Because I never saw a man so mad for meat, and I grew up along our nation’s storied buffet belt.

All the info about Gary’s home planet feels like entirely pointless waste of time.

Why does Amelia Earhart have a dog and did it deliberately lead Sara and Gary back to her hut?

They’re a very believable brother and sister

Nates shorts are not a little too short.

Behrad’s all about vibes as an excuse to not share the totem.

It makes sense that bnein g draghon girls brother would have been an issue for Behrad

What’s spooners power

Spooner:  So, you just rattle off this hooey and magic happens?

I bet that spell could be used to detox addicts

See, the reveal that the slime being ingested was the alin should have been a great reveal

I did expect the alien to be in the meat, not the sauce.

Zari is the first one to realize the practical upshot that all the people are going to freak out

Was the meat supposed to be the alien at one point?

Zari and Behrad vying for the totem, Ava and Spooner vying for the search for Sara

Bert:  Well, people don’t eat burgers and fries to live longer

Spooner’s not going to be able to talk to sauce.  Ava’s clinging to straws

Sara considering and deciding there’s no harm in bringing Amelia home was a nice moment

Nice slow burn revealing that there’s something off about Amelia

John couldn’t make himself go farther than a polo shirt as blending

Ava’s actually pretty clever understanding that the electric mixer would be a new thing and point of pride

Ava’s snooping is really not subtle.  Kind of this episode in a nutshell

Spooner:  What does that look like to you>?

John:  I don’t know, Mr. Beeman’s midlife crisis?

‘Giant Air Feeder

So all of the aliens are the fiercest creatures in the universe

They chose not to bother going with the lesbian panic reaction from Mrs. Beeman which was the right call

Black and white with skewed photography in the flashback was nice

I appreciate that they didn’t mention the Kroc’s by name.

Nate:  Well, it looks like doomsday is finally here, and it’s ordered the burger.

Exactly how strong is this dragon ash to dope zombies?

Spooners the one who both figures out whats going on and kills the big bug.  As is traditional

Life cycle wise, this tracks

Behrad is in charge of pointing out the obvious influences, the stuff, Mothra

Using the neon sign as a bug zapper was cute

Ava still pours a drink for Sara when she pours one for herself.  That’s sweet

I assume we’ll learn more about Spooners mom later.  Why did she go with the name spooner?  Was she super into heroin?

Spooner:  You want me to stay?  I almost killed a furry in the freezer

Zari one physically living in the totem like Jeannie is a little stupid, but we got to see Zari 1 again, so who cares

So Amelia E only has preset responses

So Amelia is an alien with super speed and a stinging tongue?  What the hell was any of that about?

So what are the approachinglight???

Notes on Doom Patrol - Casey Patrol

  Casey Patrol notes Wait – animation opening sequence?   WTF? Torminox Inevitable.   Nice Thanos reference. OK, Dorothy’s telling the story. Wait, she’s telling a different story. Notes on - Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Extreme Measures

  Extreme Measures notes   Bashir gets the opening log.   Odo is still super sick with the changeling sickness.   Good to establish the stakes right away Odo wants to know exactly how much time he has left. Odo is being all noble in character and wanting Kiri to go fight the rebellion without him Nice that he admits that he just doesn’t want her to watch him die.   And a little selfless of him.   Also, nice callback to Barreil Odo:   I don’t want the last thing I see to be pain in your eyes.
