Notes on - Doom Patrol: Bird Patrol

Bird Patrol notes

Who’s making the cage?

Oh, the Sisterhood,  Sleepwalker woman and Lloyd

Which means we’re in 2021 and not the past.

That bird sign/eternal Flaggelation is ‘tonight’

Larry just puked up a pupae.

Is the sisterhood manifesting those flyers to invite them all to the eternal flagellation

Vic’s doctor knew his mom, and remembers her as a kid.

After 9/11, S.T.A.R. lab turned to weapons.  Show’s almost never reference 9/11 that casually

Is having all his tech safely removed even possible for Vic?  It shouldn’t be, should it?

The Doctor is being very patient in explaining to Vic not to rush into anything.

Cliff sold all of Jane’s records

Cliff is totally off the deep end with his online addictions

How did the sisterhood get the Dada bird logo into Jane’s throat and Cliff’s T-shirt.

Wait, was that Flit who had the Cher workout tapes?

I suppose Sachiko could have the power to send flyers

Flit took Cliff to his daughters house to get him out of the house

The drawings are in green pen.  Nice little nod to the comics

Wally Sage

Theyre totally referencing My Greenest Adventure

Wally can make drawings into real objects

What year is this and what’s made Laura so bitter that she’s stopped helping powered young people

What’s made Laura so bitter?

What was that the Rita tucked into Laura’s notebook?

We must be in WWII now, Laura mentions that wars don’t fight themselves

Yep, definitely WWII imagery

What are those, cattle prods?

Laura:  My expectations with you people literally could not be any lower at this point.

Laura:  That came… out of you?

Larry?  Yes.

Laura:  Out of your…

Larry Out of my mouth!

How does Laura know about space atmospheres

Laura:  When one expels a living, 16 pound parasite out of ones body, there really is only one reasonable response.

Larry:  … Give it a name…?

Laura:  Oh Jesus Christ.

Ah, Kay appears to be reaching puberty.  She’s becoming moody and emotional

Cliff’s hand tremor is back

Clara do NOT give Cliff your credit card

Clara’s wife is clearly not comfortable leaving Rory with Cliff

What is sleepwalker woman’s name

Is that a giant speaker she’s setting up?

Larry, don’t abandon your parasite space baby

Larry’s projecting his guilt about being a bad father onto his relationship with the space larva baby

And here comes Shelley Byron’s fog

Roni is hiding out in the woods roughing it.  It wasn’t hard for Vic to find her

Should it even be possible for Vic to have all his tech taken out and still live?

Interesting parallel between cyborg having powers and police brutality.

Roni thinks Vic is a more effective agent of change as Cyborg than he would be as Vic

Cliff is addicted to online everything now

Is the fog there because Cliff is, or does the eternal flagellation mean that the fog is rolling in  everywhere

One of the other alters stole Kay’s bike.  Assholes

It make sense for Doctor Harrison to act this way.  Keeping Kay safe means keeping her safe and trapped here.

OK, now Laura is stuck in the mansion through infinite recursion?

Is it the eternal flagellation that’s causing this or something else.

OK, it’s the sisterhood doing this to her

1949 – The Bureau.  Laura warns ‘Willy’ to not make enemies there.

Laura has been with the Bureau for 35 years.  And she’s being pressured to reclassify her friends with the sisterhood as weapons.  She insists that they’re pacifists.

Wait, this is the year Niles writes that mean letter about her, isn’t it

Willy:  Friend is merely a nice word for ‘opportunity’.

Rita lives with Malcolm these days.  That’s nice

Rita and Malcolm have really leaned into performance art.  But the rest of the Sisterhood is really bored and uninterested.  What’s crawled up their butts?

Everything has gone so sour since the party in 1919

Sachiko quotes the Joker – This world needs an enema

Sachiko runs the who are we what are we why are we gambit

The horrors of the first half of the 20th century are really wearing on them

Oh, the bureau was still oddities in 1919 and the sisterhood watched it change to normalcy

Lloyd says that the sisterhood is complicit in letting things get this bad

SO they’ve been holding off on inciting the eternal flagellation because it’s too dangerous, but now they feel like they have to do something to start a change

So the flagellation has a cage, a big nest, and lots of Lloyd wind and a big speaker (fog horn?).  What’s the whole picture

And there’s a logo for the eternal flagellation on the doctors window

Jane keeps trying to reassure Kay

Cliff used Claras card to get 15 more minutes with Ginger

Wait, was that fog inside the underground?

What’s going on with their arms?  Are they aware that they’re doing that

Back in 1949, Laura shows up at the sisterhood safe room, where they’re finally going to do the eternal flagellation

Is that the dance the sisterhood was doing the night Laura sold them out.  It is.  You can see Michelle Gomez’ heart breaking as she makes her choice to sell out her friends.

Cliff:  Is this Dada?  Are we doing Dada?

And the terror when she sees the dance party being recreated

OK, I get why the Sisterhood is pissed at Laura now

It makes sense why she sold them out, but damn.

Really love the parallel scenes playing out in that attic room

They were pacifists.  Her betrayal turned them into weapons.  Literally and figuratively

What happened to Holly and Malcolm between then and now

Oh.  He stood up to them and they killed him.

That was Wally Sage that killed Malcolm

So he must be the guy in the afterlife that saved her

And Rita puddled up and escaped.  And Rita is the one in the mask Malcolm was wearing.  How did she get here?   Wait, IS RITA A MEMBER OF THE SISTERHOOD ALL ALONG AND WE JUST HADN’T SEEN HER YET???

Where did the big egg come from?

The big bird is Malcolm’s face

Laura:  No, I am NOT EVIL!

There’s a lot about the logistics here that aren’t quite clear.

Rita and Laura both have their memories back and complete.

Was that a Malcolm bird that hit Larry and why did it make him disappear?

The birds all have the faces of Janes different personalities.  Do the birds take your face before they zap you?

Notes on - Doom Patrol: Ezekiel Patrol

Ezekiel Patrol notes OMH, Alan Tudyks recap via Doctor Seuss to polka music was the best thing ever.   Finally they came together.   Hah! Mr. Nobody:   Cue the recap! ***This is the best timeline EVER! I still don’t get why Jane doesn’t age SO the chief caused their accidents as an experiment in immortality So Mr. Nobody didn’t have any plan for the patrol at all, he was just amusing himself with the bonus of hurting the chief I would watch a season of the Bachelor with Mr. Nobody Mr. Nobody:   I’m going to conduct a parade.   I’m gonna guest host The View.   I’m going to become the next Bachelor! He wanted Niles to feel like nobody Alan puts just the right amount of actual menace underneath the whimsy 1961 The Ant Farm Niles did go back to work for them!   He coordinated the whole test flight for Larry, and didn’t care that he had a wife and kids (and John) Rita was already a test subject for them. ...

Notes on - Doctor Who: Joy to the World

Doctor Who – Joy to the World notes. The Queen’s Hotel – Manchester 1940 I quite like Basil and Mrs. Basil Why are we in WWII again? Basil: It’s the end of everything, you know. Everything we hold dear.   Democracy itself will fall. I hate Pumpkin Latte Aren’t those locked doors pretty much always just connecting rooms? Orient Express – Italy – 1962 Do a lot of people read Murder on the Orient Express on the Orient   Express?   Bit on the nose. OK, we’re opening with a montage of the Doctor bursting in on various time periods and places to offer them the same lukewarm toastie and pumpkin Latte.   That’s a pretty clever way to establish the concept of the hotel from the back door, as it were MOTOE is a much thicker book than that.   And she has handwritten pages Base camp – Everest 1953.   Is there only one base camp? Sandringham Hotel – London 2024.   So, time of airing then. I’m not loving Joy’s outfit Apparently the...

Notes on - Billions: Pilot

Billions notes  Yeah, that first scene is a lot US Attorney’s office SDNY Kate giving the intro talk to some guy named Michael. Bryan was the one who gave her that speech 18 months ago Chuck is already playing with recommendations for judicial appointments Ari Spyros.   FCC here to introduce Bobby as the antagonist Lots of dry insider trading stuff Would they really introduce a possible crime with a head shot? Meanwhile Bobby is introduced enjoying pizza with his wife and being a good guy.   In contrast to Chuck getting burned and pissed on. It’s not believable that Lara hasn’t ever tried Bobby’s favorite pizza before at this point in their marriage. And now Bobby is saving his childhood pizza place from going under out of altruism.    They’re really leaning against type. And from there to Axe Capital Mick Danzig and Ben Kim And now they’re demonstrating that Bobby is smarter Bobby:   Yale? Ben:   Stanford.  ...
