Notes on Doom Patrol: Hope Patrol

Hope Patrol notes

How did Baby Jane get in the back of the car

Cliff:  I’ve been big for hours.  Sorry.  That sounded weird.

Now Jane is also aging.  So Bunbury did take her longevity

Cliff is fixing the car for Rory

*** It’s just acid reflux.  Welcome to middle age.

They’re having to patch the two episodes together with expository dialogue

Why is the mitt talking to Cliff now?

Is he hallucinating?  Is it a fugue state?

Deric is driving Vic home.  None of this matches up with the end of the last episode, really

Deric is a D & D nerd

Kay gave all of the alters puzzles to keep them occupied

Is Trauma the name of th Miranda/daddy thing from last season?  Must be

Kay’s gone all nihilist/end of days

Rouge and Rita are still on the park bench

Rouge: Well, evidently, we turned into babies before the bus came.  So, either we were too small for the bus driver to see us, or the human race really is lacking in any common decency.

Scissormen!!

Again, they didn’t really carry through establishing them from the end of the last episode

It’s disjointed

Rama!

Sacrarium?

Why did they have to bring Larry to Orquith to get his longevity?

Larry:  I feel like I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but when a bone temple spontaneously sprouts from the ground, it’s not usually a good sign.

So Rama is still down with Immortus, but won’t put up with them hurting people

They are a cute couple

Oven Mitt Rory sounds like Elmo

Mitt Rory isn’t wrong.  Cliff is burying himself in something he can control

Cliff thinks he just doesn’t have time to become a better person, so he’s doing the car

Cliff saved the last zombie butt and has it in the freezer

He is essentially a kind person

How did Jane get the Shelley’s candy shop?  Doesn’t really matter, but a weird jump

They are setting them up as a couple.  Wonderful

Jane is starting to try to be a real person all her own

Shelley’s being really cool about the whole situation

Jane’s wanted her for a long time.  Awww.  But she doesn’t know how to do things for herself

Jane:  Why does everything have to be so painful?  Why does everything have to be such a fucking battle?

Jane has way more puzzle pieces than the others

I suppose after decades of longevity, the thought of suddenly dying would be hard

Cliff:  Please tell me we’re not adopting another supervillain

Cliff:  Wait… am I sensing sexual tension here?

Larry: What?  No.  I mean…

Rama:  We haven’t crossed that bridge, but…

Larry:  There’s a bridge?

Why did Keeg just knock Larry back into Orquith

Rita is in a bucket and Rouge is morphed into a janitor

The Vineyard.  Projects that died on the vine

1/13/1955 – checked out the immortus info

What asset is that?

It feels like Rita has genuinely forgiven Laura

Wally Sage.  Who killed Malcolm.  My greenest adventure

Rouge immediately takes responsibility for the fallout from her choices.  She really is seeking redemption.

So know they’re off to find Wally Sage.  My Greenest Adventure.  He created Flex Mentallo

Vic trying to protect Deric is touching, but he has no high ground

God Bless Deric for grabbing a knife and jumping in after Vic.  He’s a good friend

Deric:  Less than twelve hours ago I was changing your diapee.  In case you forgot.

Vic:  I didn’t forget.  And I’d appreciate it if you never brought that up again.

Wally’s drawings are good.  And terrifying.

Drawing of dead Malcolm

Orquith looks like Labyrinth

Deric’s a good friend.

Are they ever going to give Vic his tech back

Deric’s going out of his way to tell Vic that he had value as Cyborg

SO cute as a friend couple

Cliff and Jane’s friendship will always hit me hard in the feelings

Cliff’s t-shirt reads Crawling from the wreckage.

The music cues when Cliff decides to have Jane be the first thing he touches.

***  I hate to break it to you, but if people want to love you, there isn’t really anything you can do to stop them.

So did Willoughby really get has ass kicked, or is he playing both sides.

Bunbury took Jane’s longevity to protect it from Immortus?

I don’t know if I believe Willoughby here.

A rabbit’s foot is all that’s left of Bunbury

Maybe

Willoughby:  God Speed, you irascible fuckwits.

I LOVE the scissormen.

Vic and Deric are old school D&D nerds.  Love that.

Everything in the campaign exists for a purpose.  So why did they put pen and paper everywhere?

Orqwith

Rita’s right.  They could just talk to him through the door.  But I get why Rouge won’t leave him

Where all ideas are born and bad ideas go to die.  Nice

Rita’s losing bodily cohesion from the trauma of seeing Wally.  Does she smother him?

The scissormen are so wonderful

Those look a lot like the knmights templar from last week

So, in the future, future Keeg showed him that he’d have to kill Larry and that’s what he’s afraid of.  He believes Immortus can keep them together

Larry gives his trust to Keeg.  That’s sweet.

Anything you draw on the newsprint becomes real.  It’s where ideas are born.  I like that.

So the robot did kind of come into play

Mr. Invincible

So Rita killed Wally

Cliff:  Which one’s on our side.

Jane:  My money’s on the bot.  He’s outnumbered, and it sounds like he has a HUGE stick up his ass.  Sounds like a kindred spirit.

So this is a younger Wally Sage?

Cliff didn’t close the freezer so the last zombie butt is out

Notes on - Doctor Who: Joy to the World

Doctor Who – Joy to the World notes. The Queen’s Hotel – Manchester 1940 I quite like Basil and Mrs. Basil Why are we in WWII again? Basil: It’s the end of everything, you know. Everything we hold dear.   Democracy itself will fall. I hate Pumpkin Latte Aren’t those locked doors pretty much always just connecting rooms? Orient Express – Italy – 1962 Do a lot of people read Murder on the Orient Express on the Orient   Express?   Bit on the nose. OK, we’re opening with a montage of the Doctor bursting in on various time periods and places to offer them the same lukewarm toastie and pumpkin Latte.   That’s a pretty clever way to establish the concept of the hotel from the back door, as it were MOTOE is a much thicker book than that.   And she has handwritten pages Base camp – Everest 1953.   Is there only one base camp? Sandringham Hotel – London 2024.   So, time of airing then. I’m not loving Joy’s outfit Apparently the...

Notes on - American Gods: Tears of the Wrath-Bearing Tree

Tears of the wrath bearing tree notes Eggs with two yolks always freak me out What’s with the boxer walking in and out? Bilquis needs to find ‘the other’ and convince him he isn’t alone? They’re really lening into the fluid in slow motion shots. OK, the wax forming the US was cool.   And a nice visual to introduce the concept of the exact center of the US So who is Shadow’s other?   Laura?   TB?   Wednesday?   We saw all three of them Shadow jiust claimed the ravens as his own. That was a pretty tenuous description for him to recognize Laura from, but then he did know she was headed to kill Wednesday ****   One shock at a time. He’s still Crispin Glover.   I thought he was only supposed to be in one episode this season.   I wonder what the real reason for the casting changes was How did he convince Laura to go the the Gods place? World very carefully told Laura that Shadow was there and then played every reverse psyc...

Notes on - Doctor Who: The Well

The Well Notes The Doctor and Belinda are trying to get back to 5/24/25 after just one vindicator reading.   That seems optimistic, but it is a good way to remind audience of the basic setup of ‘stop and take readings. Belinda is very methodical and logical. Good skill set for a nurse. Belinda: Have we been invaded? Or hit by a meteor? Or swatted by a giant moth? The Doctor: Oh.   Imagine a moth that big! I love how healthy Belinda’s relationship with her parents is *** I will meet your mum and dad. And I will make your dad laugh. And your mum can whistle at my behind. And I will sing.   I will do the singing. That is a promise. So a second triangulation reading from the vindicator 500,000 years in the future She’s asking good questions and it’s allowing the Doctor to   give his standard ‘humans are awesome’ shtick, but is also very cleverly letting them slip in the required ‘The TARDIS translates’ explanation. OK, I am officially in love w...
