Notes on Picard: Surrender

Picard Surrender notes

Flame in space is an interesting image

Is that the transporter ceiling?  No, it’s the bridge

She can block out data, then coms.  Then doors

Her conducting the sounds of death is so creepy

There is clearly something more up with Jack.  He can read minds, project his mind,

So everybody is really dead

Someone being murdered while you’re in their mind would be very odd

She’s pulling a surrender Dorothy

It’s Star Trek 3 Klingon murder setup

I am enjoying the Veeger noise

Hey, Troi finally!

****  The face of a man who can still take a punch.  Almost.

Riker and Troi really are kind of adorable together

Riker isn’t remotely bothered by the thought of Deanna sleeping with a changeling

So Riker did give up the compromise code in the hopes that Picard could handle it.  He can not

Shaw is mad at Seven for not giving him up.

And he uses phrases like ‘hunky dory’

‘My name is Seven of Nine.’

Brent Spiner just gets to stand there

Vadik

Obviously they’re going to the great link

They keep stalling on what the plan for Jack is

Did anyone accuse him of being a changeling? Why would he leap to that?

So ,uch stalling in this episode

This is exactly Search for Spock death lineup

Sure everybody, stare at him and give him away

I love the way she says Picard

Shaw is still calling her Hanson

They’re killing the redshirts first.  I really expected them to kill Shaw here

Tell me about someone who loves you.  Fiendish

It’s exactly Search for Spock.  Right down to telling them

It still doesn’t track that Troi and Riker had split up.  Doesn’t jive with when we last saw them at all

Troi mentally controlled him.  Nope.  Don’t buy it for a second

You can’t skip to the end of healing is actually good advice for everyone

Judgey Foyer

I kind of hate hearing them talk shit about Npenthe

Nice long character scene that doesn’t really accomplish anything

Oh look, Worf!

Worf hitting on Deanna is funny

Picard insulting Geordi’s taste in wine is funny

They announced the plot event of removing the partition ages ago.  Finally they get to it

Spiner on Spiner action!

He really is good

No way is Lore going to overpower Data

They still aren’t telling us anything new about the plan

OK, they removed portions of the parietal lobe that were infected with the syndrome

The parallel of fight for control of the ship/fight for control of Data isn’t bad

Are they just ripping off Return of the Jedi now?  Seriously??

I wish this entire episode was inside Data’s head – Data v. Lore.  They could have done so much

Tasha Yar shoutout

Why is Data handing him memories

Amanda Plummer is compelling.

Will they just go ahead and tell us what Jack is already??

So was that not Beverly calling him to come home in ep 5?

Yes.  Please stop jerking us off about the red door

Surrender referring to Data surrendering to Lore?

Hey, it’s Spot

It’s the old ‘show the and guy a moment of love and they turn good’ trope

We’re supposed to think Data has been destroyed, but he’s been integrated into Lore

And there’s the exact integration we expected.  It was well executed at least.  I wish they’d had the balls to do a blend of Lore/Data.  I give you these memories because you’ve never known kindness was nicely done, if not really original

Man,  Raffi really has had nothing to do this season

I don’t hate the Aliens airlock bit

Would that kill Amanda Plummer?

I guess so

Let’s guess.  The all-consuming darkness is Jack

I guess they are showing us a little bit of Lore.  What with the swearing

We still aren’t really further toward knowing what the plan is for Frontier day or what Jack is, or why they wanted Picard’s body, or any of it.

And now we finally have the whole NG crew back together, which I guess was the point of the season

Yes, Frontier day is still just hours away.  We ‘ve been saying that for episodes

Yes, we still don’t know what Jack is.  Thanks for pointing out that nothing much happened in this episode

Oh yeah, they can cloak.  I’d forgotten already

They did make a virtue of Mariana Sirtus’ not being available right away

Yes, you still haven’t explained the red door either

Go ahead, don’t open the door either.

Notes on - Doom Patrol: Ezekiel Patrol

Ezekiel Patrol notes OMH, Alan Tudyks recap via Doctor Seuss to polka music was the best thing ever.   Finally they came together.   Hah! Mr. Nobody:   Cue the recap! ***This is the best timeline EVER! I still don’t get why Jane doesn’t age SO the chief caused their accidents as an experiment in immortality So Mr. Nobody didn’t have any plan for the patrol at all, he was just amusing himself with the bonus of hurting the chief I would watch a season of the Bachelor with Mr. Nobody Mr. Nobody:   I’m going to conduct a parade.   I’m gonna guest host The View.   I’m going to become the next Bachelor! He wanted Niles to feel like nobody Alan puts just the right amount of actual menace underneath the whimsy 1961 The Ant Farm Niles did go back to work for them!   He coordinated the whole test flight for Larry, and didn’t care that he had a wife and kids (and John) Rita was already a test subject for them. ...

Notes on - Doctor Who: Joy to the World

Doctor Who – Joy to the World notes. The Queen’s Hotel – Manchester 1940 I quite like Basil and Mrs. Basil Why are we in WWII again? Basil: It’s the end of everything, you know. Everything we hold dear.   Democracy itself will fall. I hate Pumpkin Latte Aren’t those locked doors pretty much always just connecting rooms? Orient Express – Italy – 1962 Do a lot of people read Murder on the Orient Express on the Orient   Express?   Bit on the nose. OK, we’re opening with a montage of the Doctor bursting in on various time periods and places to offer them the same lukewarm toastie and pumpkin Latte.   That’s a pretty clever way to establish the concept of the hotel from the back door, as it were MOTOE is a much thicker book than that.   And she has handwritten pages Base camp – Everest 1953.   Is there only one base camp? Sandringham Hotel – London 2024.   So, time of airing then. I’m not loving Joy’s outfit Apparently the...

Notes on - Billions: Pilot

Billions notes  Yeah, that first scene is a lot US Attorney’s office SDNY Kate giving the intro talk to some guy named Michael. Bryan was the one who gave her that speech 18 months ago Chuck is already playing with recommendations for judicial appointments Ari Spyros.   FCC here to introduce Bobby as the antagonist Lots of dry insider trading stuff Would they really introduce a possible crime with a head shot? Meanwhile Bobby is introduced enjoying pizza with his wife and being a good guy.   In contrast to Chuck getting burned and pissed on. It’s not believable that Lara hasn’t ever tried Bobby’s favorite pizza before at this point in their marriage. And now Bobby is saving his childhood pizza place from going under out of altruism.    They’re really leaning against type. And from there to Axe Capital Mick Danzig and Ben Kim And now they’re demonstrating that Bobby is smarter Bobby:   Yale? Ben:   Stanford.  ...
