Notes on - Doom Patrol: Fame Patrol

Fame Patrol notes

Nice needle drop.

So everybody that we care about survived the Immortus thing?

I was worried about Deric for a second

Jane is PISSED

Casey holding Wally and Torminex.  No love for Doctor Janus??  They don’t even show us her body.

Laura:  A Pile of dead corpses in a giant crate is fairly sobering

They’re all trying to figure out what the hell is going on with IsobelImmortus

Cliff hadn’t even registered that Dorothy had shown up.

Casey is doing a good job of showing the confusion that a fictional character would feel being pulled into reality

*** We’ll figure this out together.  I promise.

Bye Deric.  We’ll miss you.  Good on you for going to check on your family though.

I hope that this isn’t the last we see of Deric.

So Deric’s telling him to find a new way to be Cyborg?

No way Deric got an Uber there that fast.

Rita is barely pretending that her reasons for killing Isobel aren’t personal

So Isabel Feathers had been a notorious missing/presumed dead case?  Makes sense.

Love the voice effect on Isabel

Nice verbal reminder that they’re getting old

Can she just rewind time, or was that a device?

Isabel’s need to be famous is infecting Immortus?  Or vice versa

Why is Madame Rouge the only one who can sense the time jumps?  Is it because she’s the Master?

Cliff is only now remembering the zombie butt in the freezer?

Cliff, they can absolutely keep giving you shit.  You gave in.

Rita:  It’s our best chance of getting out of this mess that Cliff has gotten us into.

World of Wut

I’m right here stop shouting.  What’s that about?  Are we going to see this scene from another perspective later?

Larry’s giving up on dealing with Immortus awfully quickly

Dorothy showing Space Case her father’s spaceship

Aww, Casey’s trying to be nice and give Dorothy the reaction she wants.  That’s sweet

Casey:  So, what kind of engine you workin’ with here, huh?  Dutonium fire-water?  Combustible neutron droplets?  Purple crystals?

Dorothy:  It runs on apples.  You feed them to the mountain goat over the dashboard.

Casey:  Huh.

Dorothy is being so supportive and sweet to Casey about her father’s death.  She would know if course.

Casey needs a new mission.  Aww, they’re teaming up.

Dorothy:  They’re the only family I have left.  And they’re dying.

Larry, true to form, is giving up.

Yay!  Rama!

So Keeg disassembled him.  That’s kind of hostile.

Cliff, the zombie butt has most likely left the house by now.

Cliff is getting hysterical

Cliff:  I’m fine.  Totally not reckoning with my mortality in multiple very-real scenarios.

Is the purple flash getting into Jane’s underground a significant reference to the longevity

So, was Casey actually in the underground, or did she just get a message through

What does Vic think he’s there for?’

Claire DeLaire

Ooo, Rita took the attention away from Isabel.  Don’t upset the all powerful.

Again, Laura seems to be the only one who notices the time jumps

Vic:  Woah.  When did you become all dark and vengeful?

Laura:  Apparently it’s been a thing for quite some time.

Larry’s aging is risking the negative being exploding when he gets too feeble to contain it.

The visual metaphor of Larry’s hand reaching out to help Rama is a great visual of him being saved by human connection

Cliff, tell someone about the zombie butt

Ooo, the optics of offering Cliff Niles’ wheelchair is bad on every level.  Dorothy, I know you’re trying to help but you should know better.

Cliff of course reads it as ‘oh, everybody hates me now like they all hated him’

Oh, and it ties in to the reveal to Dorothy that Niles’ ghost avoided her.  SO well constructed.

Casey trying to help Jane is a little out of nowhere.  Is she on task for Dorothy;s new mission?  Is that what it is?

What is Jane hearing?

Ooh, Casey, organizing the puzzle as metaphor for Jane’s identity isn’t going to be helpful

Casey’s quoting to Jane what Dorothy said to her,  Jane is much less receptive to it.

What does it mean to be real in this context?

Are we only real when we’re being perceived by others?

That’s kind of the whole point of influencer culture.

World of Wut’s intro starts with Peanut Butter the donkey!

Rita is going by her real name on WoW.  Interesting

Rita and Isabel are both vying to take the attention

Rita:  I think it’s important to remember that at the time I was trying very hard NOT to destroy the town.

Why is Isabel/Immortus giving warnings and then reversing time when they won’t remember the warning.  Does she know that Laura will somehow remember?

The couch seating gag works on every level

Dorothy’s not wrong

Dorothy:  It’s not your condition that’s a burden, it’s your obstinance!

Cliff thinks he doesn’t deserve love or pity.

Love that Dorothy points out how selfish it is to not realize that your death won’t hurt you, it will hurt the people that love you

Dorothy and Casey are both working the mission on Cliff and Jane respectively

Life is short.  Be with the people that love you and go to a parade, dumbass.

Larry and Rama really are sweet together

I like how Rama is calling Larry out for his bad decisions in a loving way that still doesn’t let him off the hook.

Larry really is being a good father

Rama:  You only have so much time on this earth, and your friends want you to go to a parade. Why wouldn’t you go?

Right, Vic never had longevity to lose.  He’s still aging normally

Laura’s apologizing for pushing Isabel into the time hole in the first place.  That’s a nice cal back

Isabel:  I’m not evil.  I’m famous.

OK, so Isabel knows that she’s Immortus.  It’s not buried

So Immortus isn’t trying to destroy time.  They know how all time plays out.  They’re just going with Isabel’s instinct to harvest fame

The farting donkey on the float is EPIC

Love that they all confess their issues to one another on the float

Ooo, Isabel is supposed to present the Doom Patrol the key to the city.  It’s about them, not her.

And cue Laura to warn the DP about Isabel just as she goes nuclear

Same ending as last episode, but in reality.

Notes on - Doctor Who: Joy to the World

Doctor Who – Joy to the World notes. The Queen’s Hotel – Manchester 1940 I quite like Basil and Mrs. Basil Why are we in WWII again? Basil: It’s the end of everything, you know. Everything we hold dear.   Democracy itself will fall. I hate Pumpkin Latte Aren’t those locked doors pretty much always just connecting rooms? Orient Express – Italy – 1962 Do a lot of people read Murder on the Orient Express on the Orient   Express?   Bit on the nose. OK, we’re opening with a montage of the Doctor bursting in on various time periods and places to offer them the same lukewarm toastie and pumpkin Latte.   That’s a pretty clever way to establish the concept of the hotel from the back door, as it were MOTOE is a much thicker book than that.   And she has handwritten pages Base camp – Everest 1953.   Is there only one base camp? Sandringham Hotel – London 2024.   So, time of airing then. I’m not loving Joy’s outfit Apparently the...

Notes on - American Gods: Tears of the Wrath-Bearing Tree

Tears of the wrath bearing tree notes Eggs with two yolks always freak me out What’s with the boxer walking in and out? Bilquis needs to find ‘the other’ and convince him he isn’t alone? They’re really lening into the fluid in slow motion shots. OK, the wax forming the US was cool.   And a nice visual to introduce the concept of the exact center of the US So who is Shadow’s other?   Laura?   TB?   Wednesday?   We saw all three of them Shadow jiust claimed the ravens as his own. That was a pretty tenuous description for him to recognize Laura from, but then he did know she was headed to kill Wednesday ****   One shock at a time. He’s still Crispin Glover.   I thought he was only supposed to be in one episode this season.   I wonder what the real reason for the casting changes was How did he convince Laura to go the the Gods place? World very carefully told Laura that Shadow was there and then played every reverse psyc...

Notes on - Doctor Who: The Well

The Well Notes The Doctor and Belinda are trying to get back to 5/24/25 after just one vindicator reading.   That seems optimistic, but it is a good way to remind audience of the basic setup of ‘stop and take readings. Belinda is very methodical and logical. Good skill set for a nurse. Belinda: Have we been invaded? Or hit by a meteor? Or swatted by a giant moth? The Doctor: Oh.   Imagine a moth that big! I love how healthy Belinda’s relationship with her parents is *** I will meet your mum and dad. And I will make your dad laugh. And your mum can whistle at my behind. And I will sing.   I will do the singing. That is a promise. So a second triangulation reading from the vindicator 500,000 years in the future She’s asking good questions and it’s allowing the Doctor to   give his standard ‘humans are awesome’ shtick, but is also very cleverly letting them slip in the required ‘The TARDIS translates’ explanation. OK, I am officially in love w...
